The 7th Guest

7th Guest at Amazon.comOne of my favorite video games of the 1990’s was 7th Guest. I loved the spooky music and the puzzle games. There is more than I ever knew about it on Wikipedia:

The game is played by wandering the mansion, solving logic puzzles and watching videos that further the story. The main antagonist, Henry Stauf, is an ever-present menace, taunting the player with clues, mocking the player as they fail his puzzles (“We’ll all be dead by the time you solve this!”), and expressing displeasure when the player succeeds (“Don’t think you’ll be so lucky next time!”).

This video explains the story of Henry Stauf, the creepy toymaker. You’re introduced to the six guests and left to wonder who the seventh guest is.

Watching this video brought back so many memories for me. Truly, one of the best parts of the game was the music. Fat Man did an amazing job of creating new creepy music that seemed to fit right into an old Victorian house.

They recently released a version of Myst for the Nintendo DS. I personally can’t wait for the DS version of 7th Guest. THAT would be a game I would LOVE to play all over again!

Update 02-13-13

To my joy, I’ve found that they have released 7th Guest for iOS, meaning iPads and iPhones:

I am so happy that this game hasn’t been lost to the annuals of time!

  1. I worked with Graeme indirectly back in the 1980’s when he was with Mastertronic before he started Trilobyte. Another good friend from way back then may have helped with the name by dragging Graeme out into the desert for Trilobite fossils. I was very sad when Graeme and Rob parted ways, but they made a good run and had some great successes. Last I heard Graeme was at Id.

  2. Jesus, Glenn!

If you know one of these guys, then call them on the phone and tell them I want a Nintendo DS version of this game RIGHT NOW!!!

I want them to have MORE success and the DS is ready for a game like 7th Guest. Not enough people got to see it back in the day. Myst got all the publicity, even though 7th Guest beat them to the punch.

Please tell them I want this game!

  4. You have no idea how long i’ve been searching for this game on any console besides the PC. I recently bought a new computer and tried to install the game but the new and improve technology don’t support the older ones so, unless I find an old pc and keep it for just this game, I think I’m SOL!!! Both 7th guest and 11th hour have been my favorites also and I’ve spend a lot money on stupid ridiculous games trying to find another one that intrigued and captured me like these two games!!!! I also cannot wait to have this on the DS if they do decide to do it… I can only hope at this point!!!!!
