Sony wasn’t the first to market with a DVD camcorder–Both Panasonic and Hitachi have released camcorders that can burn to either DVD-R or DVD-RAM. But neither of those formats is perfect for home users, as DVD-R doesn’t allow editing and DVD-RAM can’t be played in a home DVD player. Sony is first out of the gate with a camcorder that allows standard DVD-RW media that can be both edited and played directly on a home player–a huge advantage for typical consumers.

The Toshiba Portege 3500 Tablet PCs are capable laptops that also convert into Tablet PCs. Using an electrostatic touch screen (which is much more rugged than a typical pressure sensitive PDA screen, but works only with the included stylus) and an LCD panel that rotates around to shut in “slate mode”, the 3500 functions well in both categories.

The Toshiba 2032SP is among the first generation of actually useful PocketPC based smartphones. Palm devices, especially those built by Samsung, have been eating the Pocket PC platform’s lunch in the integrated phone market for quite some time, because the higher power requirements and larger form factor of the Pocket PC have made it difficult to build a competitive phone.
