Animal Crossing New Leaf: Egyptian QR Codes

Filed under: Animal Crossing,Toys and Games — Laura Moncur @ 10:00 am

I’ve been playing Animal Crossing New Leaf constantly for four months now. One of the additions to the game is you can customize furniture with custom images. You can also have your own rooms at the museum, so I wanted an Egyptian exhibit. It still needs a pyramid and a sphinx, but it’s coming along nicely.

Using QR MyDesign Assistant for Animal Crossing on my iPhone, I was able to create these Egyptian QR Codes. (Continue Reading…)

Animal Crossing New Leaf: QR Codes for Boring Sweaters and Cardigans

Filed under: Animal Crossing,Toys and Games — Laura Moncur @ 7:00 am

Boring Sweater QR Codes for Animal CrossingI’ve been playing Animal Crossing New Leaf constantly for four months now. As diverse and varied as the clothing selections are in the game, there aren’t any boring sweaters or cardigans. When I have a brightly colored skirt, I kind of want to tone it down with a simple sweater, so I worked for HOURS on these sweaters so I would have adorable options when I want to wear a cute skirt. You can see all the sweaters after the break.

Update 10-12-11

I realized that I didn’t make pink or blue sweaters and cardigans, so I rectified that problem. Additionally, I’ve added a gray fisherman’s sweater with a blue scarf.

Update 10-18-13

I added a black fisherman’s sweater with a purple scarf and a brown fisherman’s sweater with a teal scarf. I will take requests if you want something different. (Continue Reading…)

Animal Crossing New Leaf: The Best of the Old and Even Better New

Filed under: Animal Crossing,Toys and Games — Laura Moncur @ 10:00 am

Animal Crossing New Leaf at Amazon.comI played Animal Crossing Wild World A LOT and I thought that Nintendo wouldn’t be able to improve on it, but Animal Crossing New Leaf is the best of the old games and has even better new features. I’ve been playing for over four months now, and every day is still a joy. In addition to the fishing, bug catching and furniture collecting there are a myriad of new activities.

The first difference is the fact that you are now the mayor of your town. With this added responsibility, you get to do Public Works Projects and Set Town Ordinances. The town tree shows your town’s progress.

Animal Crossing New Leaf: Wil Wheaton’s Clown Sweater QR Codes

Filed under: Animal Crossing,Toys and Games — Laura Moncur @ 8:56 am

Wil Wheaton's Clown Sweater in Animal CrossingI’ve been playing Animal Crossing New Leaf constantly for four months now. I always get a HUGE amount of enjoyment and play time from an Animal Crossing game, but this one has been particularly joyful for me. I’ll talk about that in the days to come, but for now, I have a fun item for you: QR Codes for Wil Wheaton’s Clown Sweater.

If you are unfamiliar with this particular piece of clothing, here is an image of the original: WWdN In Exile – undone (the sweater post)

A fan of Wil’s (from Stand By Me, Star Trek Next Generation, Eureka and Big Bang Theory) asked him to wear this sweater and he was gracious enough to do it, despite its ghastly appearance. It has come to represent Wil Wheaton on many levels and I wanted one to exist in the Animal Crossing universe, so I created it.

Here are the QR Codes: (Continue Reading…)

Animal Crossing: New Leaf Will Be Here In June

Filed under: Animal Crossing,Toys and Games — Laura Moncur @ 8:02 am

Nintendo announced that Animal Crossing: New Leaf will arrive June 9th this year! I bought my Nintendo 3DS TWO years ago just for this game and I have been waiting forever for it! They just released a trailer for the game.

It came out in Japan back in November, so there are tons of videos showing how the game plays with kind people translating for us. For example, LinandKo have been doing tons of videos and just did one for Valentine’s Day this year, telling us what you can receive from the villagers in honor of the holiday.

I feel strangely excited that Animal Crossing: New Leaf is almost here. I haven’t had a game I have loved as much as Animal Crossing: Wild World, so I have high hopes for New Leaf.

Animal Crossing: You’ve Caught A Mole Cricket!!

Filed under: Animal Crossing,Toys and Games — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am

Animal Crossing: City Folk at Amazon.comI’ve been playing Animal Crossing: City Folk pretty regularly. I’m not as obsessed with it as I was Animal Crossing: Wild World, but that’s mostly because I have to play it on the Wii instead of the DS. The whole house can hear me when I play Animal Crossing: City Folk and the town is 52 inches wide. When Mike can see my obsession in HD greatness, I’m a little less willing to play for hours on end. The DS was a more private way to obsess.

Since it’s winter in the game, there aren’t very many bugs to catch, but one of the bugs that I can still get are mole crickets. Imagine my shock and surprise when The Bloggess showed me a photo of a REAL mole cricket.

What the hell is this? by jennythebloggess from Flickr

If I saw that thing running around, there’s NO WAY I’d catch it! Butterfly net or not! After reading her comments, they are harmless:

dewde says:

LOL it’s a mole-cricket. Pick it up and it will try and “dig” into your hand much like a puppy digs in the dirt. It tickles, actually.

In the game, when you hear the mole cricket, you have to get out your shovel, dig a hole and then hurry and get your butterfly net to catch the cricket scurrying away. When I’m playing Animal Crossing, mole crickets look so cute. In real life, not so much. I think I’ll stick with the fantasy for now.

Review of Animal Crossing: City Folk

Filed under: Animal Crossing,Reviews,Toys and Games — Laura Moncur @ 10:45 am

Animal Crossing City Folk and Wii Speak Microphone Bundle at Amazon.comI have gushed many times about the game, Animal Crossing: Wild World. You can see my entries here:

Almost two years ago, I first heard about Animal Crossing for the Wii:

It has finally arrived and I’m just head over heels happy with it. My favorite part of Animal Crossing were the daily conversations with my little animal friends, but after three years of playing the DS version, I had pretty much memorized the game. The writing for Wild World was spectacular and you can see the quotes I gleaned from that wonderful game here:

My biggest fear for City Folk was that they would recycle the writing. As spectacular as it was, I was a little sick of hearing Elvis tell me the SAME things every day. Fortunately, they have rewritten the entire game. Right down to what Nook says when you are buying a house. Almost all of the writing is new. There is a little bit of recycling here and there, but unless you’re an insane woman who memorizes everything she hears, you probably won’t even notice. They even went to the trouble of inventing new catchphrases every time you catch a fish. And Blathers will tell you about the zoological quirks of fish rather than go on and on about how tasty they are.

I was also worried about how the transfer for the DS would go. I had heard that I could transfer my character from my DS game to City Folk. I worried that it would work like a move. For example, in Wild World, you can move from one city to another, but you lose everything in your bureau, bank account and you arrive with only what you can carry in your pockets. THAT is how I thought the move to City Folk would go. Instead, the only thing that transfers is hair color, eye color, sex, name and my catalog. My character in Wild World is still there and I didn’t lose her when I transferred to the Wii game. It was a huge relief.

I had completed my museum collection in Wild World, so I thought that starting a town with an empty museum would be depressing, but surprisingly, it’s not. It gives me all the reason to fish, dig and hunt for bugs again. By the way, fishing and hunting for bugs can be done just like on the DS and Gamecube versions, but they have added features to let me fish a little more realistically with the Wiimote. Now, I can cast my fishing rod, just like a real rod with the Wii controller. To catch the fish, I pull up, just like I would if I were really fishing. Swinging a net is exactly the same.

There have been lots of talk about visiting the city. Here is a video talking about those features ad infinitum:

For me, I’m just happy to talk to my new little animal friends. The writing for City Folk is looking to be just as enjoyable and witty as the writing was for Wild World, so I’m looking forward to laughing with my imaginary friends for many days this year!

Animal Crossing: City Folk

Filed under: Animal Crossing,Toys and Games — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am

Animal Crossing: City Folk at Amazon.comAfter much anticipation, Nintendo FINALLY announced Animal Crossing: City Folk, which is the Wii version of Animal Crossing. I am STILL a big fan of Animal Crossing: Wild World, even though I have pretty much done everything that I could do in this game. You can imagine how eager I am to play Animal Crossing: City Folk. For more information about it, here is the Wikipedia entry:

The primary new addition to Animal Crossing: City Folk is a new city area. Accessible to players by bus, the city offers a variety of activities. In the city, players can shop for clothes and accessories at Gracie Grace, a fashion boutique shop, and can redo their hairstyles at Harriet’s hair salon (like in Wild World). Players can even choose to replace their face with that of their Mii’s. Other activities available at the city take advantage of the Wii’s Wi-Fi capabilities, such as an auction house, where players can auction off items to other players via Wi-Fi connection, an office for the Happy Room Academy, where players can see how well other players’ towns are progressing, and a theater to learn emotions. Redd is back, but you still need to know a password like in Wild World.

Here is a video (the demonstrator and interviewer are BORING, but they show you a lot of cool stuff) that shows you a lot of the city:

Here is the Nintendo announcement about the game at E3 this month:

Here is a video of gameplay:

Animal Crossing: Gulliver

Filed under: Animal Crossing,Toys and Games — Laura Moncur @ 5:00 am

I’ve been playing Animal Crossing for a year and a half and for the first time ever, I was able to shoot down the UFO. It has flown across my town probably a total of ten times in the last eighteen months, and last week was the first time I was able to shoot it down.

After I shot it down, it crash landed in my town and I was able to talk to Gulliver. He didn’t realize it was ME that shot him down, but he asked me to help him fix his craft so he could leave again. It was the least I could do.

You can see my encounter here:

It’s amazing that I can play a game almost EVERY day for a year and a half and it might still have something new to show me. Kudos to Nintendo and the creators of Animal Crossing. Once again, you have given me a pleasant surprise on what I thought was an ordinary day.

These videos from MammaMia19 show a little more of an encounter with Gulliver:

I have no idea how MammaMia19 knew to film on the exact day when Gulliver flew over their town.

“So I was just recording myself playing and Gulliver’s UFO flew by the top screen. Figured i would show you guys. I shoot this guy down left and right. No UFO’s get away with flying by MY village!!”

This video shows what it looks like to shoot down the UFO:

Animal Crossing: How To Complete Your Catalog

Filed under: Animal Crossing,Toys and Games — Laura Moncur @ 8:30 am

Animal Crossing DSI have been playing Animal Crossing: Wild World for the Nintendo DS since October of 2006. I haven’t caught all the fish or insects, but I’m getting really close to having a complete catalog. Somehow, in my mind, I decided that to “win” this game, I needed a complete catalog. Checking my catalog with Nook is a real pain, so I have created an Animal Crossing complete catalog checklist for myself. I thought I would share it with you:

This is an Excel spreadsheet listing all the items that are possible to own in Animal Crossing. I gathered this information from all over the web and I suspect that there are errors in it, but so far it has worked well for me. I use it during play every day to check the new items at Nooks, The Abel Sisters and Redd’s Tent.

This book also has helpful information about visitors to the town, how to get your hair cut by Harriet and what all the paintings look like. I find it extremely helpful and I thought you might like it as well.

With an open play game like Animal Crossing, you get to choose which objectives you want to achieve. Do you want to fill your museum? Do you want to design clothing? Do you want to own EVERYTHING? Do you want to be friends with everyone and proudly display their pictures in your home? Do you want to own the biggest home in town? You get to choose and there are as many ways to play as there are people.
