iPhone Works With Mercedes Benz Bluetooth and iPod Integration
The iPhone works seamlessly with the Mercedes Benz stock iPod adapter, as well as with the integrated Bluetooth MHI (Multi-Handset Interface) transceiver. In fact, the iPhone actually works better than the Motorola devices that the system was originally designed for, because if you have both the Bluetooth interface and the integrated iPod connector, you can charge your iPhone while it’s in your car without a cigarette lighter adapter. With the Motorola phones, the Bluetooth MHI adapter replaces the wired MHI cradle and prevents you from charging your phone when you have it installed.
Best of all, both the Bluetooth transceiver and the iPod integration can be retrofitted in any Mercedes Benz made after 2004 by the dealer, so if you’ve got a Mercedes and an iPhone, you’re only about $1000 away from combining the two.
The following features have been verified to work with the 2005 model year and later iPod adapter and Bluetooth interface:
- All iPod features, including in-dash song display and steering wheel button control
- Handsfree (headset profile) works through the built-in mike and speakers
- Answer/Hangup steering wheel and COMMAND buttons
- Address book upload for name selection in the navigation or stereo display
- In-dash address book name display and dial
All the features work simultaneously and the iPod will stop playing to make or answer calls. When you connect the iPhone to the iPod adapter, the iPhone will display a dialog asking if you want to enable airplane mode (i.e., shut off wifi, EDGE radio, and bluetooth) to prevent interference. It’s safe to answer “no” or just ignore it if you forget. If you answer yes, the cell phone features will be disabled.
I have found that the address book from my iPhone will not upload to the on-board COMMAND system of my 2007 SL550. I had just assumed that this was something that I would have to live without. But reading that someone else can do this makes me wonder why I cannot. I too use the BT MHI adapter. The address book uploaded correctly with my RAZR previously. Would be interested inversion details or any specific configuration changes made to get this working.

I have verified this on the 2006 CLK500 and the 2007 GL450. Both use the BT MHI bluetooth adapter. Since it is the adapter doing the object exchange with the phone, and the phone uses the same OBEX profile as the RAZR/KRZR there should be no difference between the different models of COMMAND system. The setup is completely automatic: Once you have the iPhone paired with the BT-MHI, the address book should upload automatically. You may need to press the TEL button on the COMMAND system after pairing. You may want to try reseting the BT MHI adapter to erase its previous pairings, and erase the pairing on the iPhone and then pair it with the iPhone again. I know the BT MHI has a limited number of devices that it will pair with (I think 4) and you may be at the limit. You may also want to contact Mercedes to see if there’s a firmware update or later version of the BT MHI adapter as both of mine are less than six months old. Also, I have not tried this with the V-60 cradle Bluetooth adapter. Please post your troubleshooting results when you’re finished!

I have a 2007 ML 350 purchased in Nov 2006. Bluetooth pairs but, as above, the address book is not uploaded. My old Razr worked fine. Anyone have any info on why this is and what we can do about it? Thanks.

I understand that there are 2 separate BT protocols being used by Mercedes bluetooth modules. The old one (Part# B67875839) was SIM access profile (SAP) and did not work with Blackberry. The new module released April 1, 2007 (Part#B67875878) utilizes Hands Free Profile (HFP) and does work with Blackberry. This may mean that the iPhone phone book download from SIM card only works when the module BT protocol SAP – the old and now discontinued part. Comments?

Donna, here’s the protocol to pair your phone and your car:
Press down the blue button on the bluetooth adapter until it begins flashing rapidly.
On the iPhone, click “Settings”, then click “General”, then click “Bluetooth”.
After a moment, you should see “MB PhoneSystem” detected, and the iPhone will ask you for a PIN number.
Enter “62872” as the pin number.
The phone and car are now paired. It takes about 30 seconds after you start the car for the address book to upload, but everything should work from here.
Sometimes you will have to press the “tel” key on the nav to get the phone to link up after you get in, but it should usually just do it.

Mike: You need the BlueTooth MHI adapter, and your car must be “pre-wired” for cellular (it’s a standard feature for most model years but I have run into at least one 2005 E class that was not).
The best thing to do is take your car in for service and ask them about the bluetooth adapter. They will check to make sure your car is pre-wired for cellular phones, and then order the bluetooth adapter for you. It installs easily, and my earlier comment explains how to pair it.

I also have a 2007 sl550 and my iphone is paired, however my address book will not download. Also, sometimes when I get in it does nothing and comes up as “telephone off” I have to turn the iphone on before I open the door. Very frustrating…my razr phone worked great, addresses and all.

I have discovered why sometimes the phone won’t connect automatically when you get in. If you have previously taken a call that you changed the audio source from the bluetooth adapter to either the iPhone or the iPhone’s own speakerphone, the iPhone will disconnect bluetooth and not automatically reconnect the next time you get in.
The workaround if you notice your phone won’t connect after you’ve pressed the TEL button (if the system says “Phone Off”) then on the iPhone go to the Settings icon, click General, click Bluetooth, turn it off, wait until it shuts off, and then turn it back on. It will reconnect correctly at that time.
I’ve put in a support request with Apple over the issue.

I have about 600 listings in my contacts and when the iPhone Links to bluetooth in my 07 MB e class, it tries to upload the FULL address book, which 1) takes several minutes, and 2) is too much for the MB address book to handle, so it only uploads through about P and shows the messages “Address Book Full” or something like that. On my treo it would only upload my speed dial buttons, not my full address book, which worked better. if it only uploaded my iPhone Favorites then things would work fine. anyone else find this limitation? any ideas or workarounds other than slimming down my address book?

Having that many address entries in your phone just makes it hard to find anyone’s number.
But you don’t have to delete contacts in order to slim down your address book. You need to separate your contacts into “general” contacts and “phone” contacts to be sync’d to your phone. You can do this in outlook by creating a subfolder of your contacts folder and move all the “general” contacts that don’t need to be in your phone there. You can accomplish a similar thing on the Mac by adding a new address book (click the + at the bottom of the list of address books) and copy the contacts you don’t need to sync there.
The point is that all address book applications let you separate contacts into different folders/groups/categories, and you only need to sync one of those to your phone.

It works to separate the contacts, but then, well, you don’t have all your contacts with you! I have the same situation, and syncing just an individual group to the MB address book is really what I’d like to do. That way I have all my contacts with me if I need them, but don’t have to scroll through so many names to find someone. Is there any way to do that?

I’ve tested my iPhone in my Brother’s 2004 CLK with the V60 bluetooth handset adapter. Works just fine with address book upload and the headset profile confirmed. This will work for those with older MB cars that have the v60 cradle.

i am new with ipod. i hook up the ipod to the car, but either only the 1st song on repeats over and over, or the songs are presented in a shuffled manner. how do i get the songs to play consecutively by album and not shuffled? if i disconnect from the car, the songs play in the order they were downloaded, not randomly. why the order difference between playing in the car vs. independent of the car?

Matthew I own an Iphone and a Mercedes Benz c-230 2007 it has builin phone wired but not functional. I just visited my MB dealer and they said that they could not hook the iphone with the ipod adapter. After reading your article I guess it does work!!, and what about the phone part of the Iphone? In other words please explain what do I need to do to have my Iphone up and running in both Music and telephone,in dash display, address book upload, in dash address book, etc. Are there diffrent models for the adapter? Is there any Phone holder that u recommedn for the Iphone in the MB? Please give me all the details possible I am not very tech. Thanks for giving us such great input.

i just got a ml350 and my iphone won’t work. it pairs and comes on at the command center and then the “on” button beside bluetooth on my iphone swithces itself to off and the connection is lost. i have tried someone else’s iphone and it works in my car. I haven’t had any problems with my iphone prior to this. Any ideas?

J Heiras–you need the bluetooth MHI adapter and the iPhone adapter. The dealership can install both. Then just go through the instructions in this article to get things working.

S halloway–You have a bad pairing. Delete the bluetooth pairing in your iphone, turn bluetooth off and then on again, and re-pair. This happened to me after I paired my phone to a 3rd Benz–I had to delete my pairings and recreate them to get them working correctly.

Judith–press the “hang up” button on your steering wheel until the screen says “All Playlists” and then press “off hook”. This should generate a new random playlist. The repeat problem is caused by having repeat mode set on the phone. Disconnect it from the car, and play a song. While the song is playing, touch the center of the screen. Repeat mode buttons will appear–make sure both repeat and shuffle are 5turned off.

Does anyone know what the actual limit of contacts is for the onboard phonebook? Is it the number of contacts or the number of numbers? If the limit is 500, let’s say, is that 500 contact entries, each with maybe 2 or 3 numbers?

Hey Jeff R–I’ve not tested it personally, but there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work. You will notice decreased sound quality compared to the docked phone because the car’s excellent antenna won’t be connected to the iPhone. Although I have to say the iPhone picks up signal way better than my KRZR did in the car.

Rex: You plug the phone into the ipod adapter in the glovebox, and you plug an MHI Bluetooth adapter into the center console. Bluetooth is wireless technology, so the there’s no direct connection necessary between the phone and the car. You can even leave it in your pocket and it will work if you don’t want to listen to the ipod or charge it.

Sorry, Mathew, a couple more questions: My car has the P2 package with “hands free communication.” That means I can have the MHI Bluetooth adapter installed, correct? Secondly, if I do as you say, plug the phone into the ipod adapter in the glovebox and the MHI into the center console, I don’t need a specific telephone cradle for my iphone? All the features, such as phone book, etc., will work without the cradle, just leaving the phone in the glovebox?

Hi Catherine – often times vendors simply don’t want to support a configuration that they haven’t tested or perhaps the technician you talked to simply doesn’t know. I’ve personally tested my iPhone with my brother’s v60 cradle and I know that it works. His car is a 2004 CLK 500 which I belive has the older style head unit, but there’s no reason why it shouldn’t work for you.
Worst case, you can return the bluetooth v60 adapter if it doens’t work in your car.

Jason – All MB cars have the phone buttons on the steering wheel and on the command console. None come stock with bluetooth, so you will have to purchase an MHI bluetooth adapter. It will be about $400.
Your car may or not have cellular pre-wiring. It is not a stock feature in all models and all model years, but it is stock in most or a commonly ordered feature of cars on dealer lots. Only your dealer can tell you whether or not you have cellar pre-wiring. If you don’t have it, it’s expensive to add, around $2000. So hopefully you have it.

Mike Bergen – I’m not sure whether the factory iPod integration works in the ’05 S-Class or not. If you have the “new style” command system, it will work and your dealer can order it. If you have the “old style” commad system, then you will need to buy a 3rd party iPod adapter that replaces the CD-changer.
Otherwise, to get your iPhone phone features working you need to buy either the v60 cradle bluetoth adapter or the MHI handset bluetooth adapter depending on which type of cellular pre-wiring your car has.

Hi Rex – The handsfree communication featue is a voice-activation feature that allows you to dial by voice. It doesn’t actually have anything to do with Bluetooth, and I don’t have any idea whether the handsfree dialing will work with the iPhone. If you find out, please post here.
However, it does mean that you already have cellular pre-wiring, so yes, all you need to use the phone features of your iPhone is the Bluetooth MHI adapter. If you want to use the iPod features and charge automatically, you need the factory iPod adapter for your car.

If you have a mercedes with the older style command system (Pre-2004 all classes, 2004 CLK) you can get iPod integration using a Dension ICE Link. It replaces your CD changer unfortunately, and it can be difficult to install. I had one in my 2004 CLK, and it worked but it wasn’t great. Anyway, here’s the link. This and the v60 bluetooth adapter in your phone cradle will get all iPhone features integrated in most D2B command bus mercedes cars.

Hi Matthew–I first wrote to you above in entry #33.I an hoping you could assist me one additional time. I am now trying to pair my new iphone with my razor cradle V3 (of course only bluetooth–not cradled). This is what I am doing- Iphone on—-press blue button on cradle until flashing fast—–set bluetooth on in iphone—wait for it to recognize(which it does on the iphone–says MBcradle–then i enter code 62872 and press connect. Everything is fine until the car trys to activate but it ends up with phone off”…i try to push the telephone symbol–or phone on the car again and it tries again but still phone off…. So it seems to by pairing with the cradle but cannot activate—Do you have any suggestions to offer? Thanks Matthew.

Hi Jeff – This actually happens sometimes with my iPhone, and it seems to be the fault of the iPhone and not the cradle. Try restarting your iPhone (Hold down the top button until a shutdown message appears, then slide to power off. Turn it back on by pressing the front button). Sometimes I have to delete the pairing and re-pair the phone as well.
Are you sure the bluetooth code is correct for your unit? It’s the correct one for both the v60 and MHI bluetooth adapters but I’m not certain about the razr adapter.

I have a new 2008 SL550 with blue tooth adapter. Sanyo Katana phone works well. However, very frustrated that sometimes the address book downloads and sometimes it does not and I cannot figure out what the deciding factor is. Turning the phone on and off, turning phone blue tooth on and off doesn’t bring up the address book on COMMAND display. Any comments or suggestions. Thanks in advance.

I am using iphone with CLK 350, 2006. I have no problems except one. When downloading the address book the phone numbers stored in international dialing format beginning with ‘+’ are downloaded without the ‘+’ and become useless to dial. Any comments or suggestions?

Thanks Matthew–I tried to re-pair,etc with no success. It seems to recognize the cradle and the phone says “paired”, but the phone is still “off”. I am thinking that perhaps the V3 cradle doesn’t work with the iphone. Other mercedes owners (in various mercedes boards) have reported similar problems trying to pair the iphone with that cradle. I just bought an 08 clk 350. I plug in the ipod/iphone and I SEE NO OPTION reading AUX. All I see by flipping through the options is CD(no disc) CDC(cd changer”Mag empty”) Radio. HOW DO I GET THE IPOD TO WORK!? When I plug in the ipod i get a MB logo on the ipod screen. What am I missing here!? Thanks

RE: place to buy adapters and get around return policy:
If you call wireless 4 mb (auto wireless solutions) and say you are going to be using a verizon Razr V3m, with software version NEWC_01.05.0A, you technically are using an “approved phone”. So you can purchase the v60 adapter, or MHI adapter and get away with returning it if it doesnt work with your iphone. You may be charged a 20% restocking fee, but im not sure. I have a 2007 S550 that I have been using my Motorola RAZR with. I noticed on the AWS website that the iPhone is compatible with the MHI Bluetooth adapter – I was so excited I ran out and bought the iPhone today. I have been able to pair my phone, but the address book and contacts will not load in the car. I checked AWS website again and they refer to MHI model # B67875878 and then I realized my MHI adapter is part number B67875839. Does this mean I have an older adapter that will NOT work – or is something else causing the problem? At $400 a pop I hate to have to buy another adapter. Hoping that is not the problem or maybe there is a way to get a firmware/software update on my B67875839 MHI Bluetooth Adapter? I notice a lot of people having the same trouble so maybe this will answer the question of many!? Thanks for any and all assistance!

There are differences in the charging voltages between the iPod and the iPhone. The iPod charger is a higher voltage (10+v) and will damage the iPhone (5v max). Not necessarily right away, but it will damage the battery (see threads on this subject). An iPod charger should never be used with the iPhone. USB charging is fine for both and the iPhone charger (at lower voltages will charge the iPod. Why Apple did this, I don’t know. But my question is: Does the MB iPod connector/charger charge a the higher iPod voltage? Is is safe for the iPhone? Just because it works, doesn’t mean that it’s safe. Does anyone have specs for the MB iPod connector voltage?

Frank–that’s just not true. All iPods from the Gen1 charge on +5v, either from a USB or Firewire interface. They have a single 3.6v Lithium Ion cell that would be destroyed by a 10v charging circuit. The charger has never been 10v. It is perfectly safe to charge an iPhone with an iPod charger, and the MB adapter does not damage an iPhone. Please verify your facts on something other than a rumor site before posting here.

I recommend purchasing all of the Bluetooth adapters through your Mercedes Benz dealer. They usually have liberal return policies in case the adapter doesn’t work because they’re interested in preserving a relationship with you.

I hope someone can help me. I own a 2006 (March) Mercedes CLS with COMMAND and the bluetooth (SAP) system – the one that looks like the SLR racing car and flashes blue. I also own an Iphone and no one can get the two to pair – even just the bluetooth to make basic calls, forget the address book. I’m due to get a new car in March and am wondering will I have the same problem with a new model – Mercedes don’t seem to know: but all I really want to know is can I ever get the car and phone to pair or am I getting rid of the phone and getting my old Nokia 8800 up and running again which was compatible. Thanks to the comments above, I was able to get an iPhone paired with my mother’s 2007 Mercedes CLK350.
The PIN code mentioned (62872) was required. Where does that come from? Apple? I don’t remember that code when I had to pair a Motorola Q with the car.
I had to do the operation over the phone so I had no access to the iPhone documentation.

Matthew, The original iPod chargers were 10v (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5405063). iHome devices (for connecion with iPods also have 10v charging voltages. You can see the Apple website discussions for iPhones damaged by iHome devices. Now, they are all 5v chargers that are compatible with both the iPod and iPhones. All USB and firewire have always charged at 5v (as you pointed out). Safe for both iPod and iPhone. Since MB’s newer models have iPod connectors, I would hope that they are at the current 5v specs. But since it s not from USB or Firewire, but from a 12v car battery, it would be nice for some verification that MB did indeed have the iPod charging voltage at 5v. MB does not publish their specs for the connector. MB also does not say that it is for iPod/iPhone. I only says iPod.

My wife has a 2004 CLK500 Cabriolet convertible with the V60 BT puck. Worked fine with a basic RAZR V3.
Her new iPhone is not recognized/ does not recognize. The iPhone is set for Settings-General-BT-ON and it is discoverable and searching.
The MB V60 puck is blinking fast after the button was held down 3 seconds….
This was suppose to be a nice Valentines Day present and it looks like I’m in trouble… The iPhone seems to work fine independently; it just won’t coordinate with the car via BT.

Try un-pairing all phones from the mercedes before adding the iPhone. The first time through, my sister reported that the car (2005 CLK via Bluetooth) didn’t see the iPhone.

I think the mystery is solved, at least in my (sad) case. Please comment with corrections or suggestions.
This 2004 CLK500A (Cabriolet/Convertible) that had a bracket for a Motorola v60i phone now requires the black V60 BT “puck” adapter. Using the “puck” with a part number that ends in -5856, it works with various phones, including basic RAZRs. However, it does NOT work with the iPhone, at least as recently as SW version 1.1.3.
As I understand it, other 2004 MB models, including the Coupe CLK500, as well as many later MB models, do NOT use the “puck” and require instead the long, silver BT “MHI” adapter. And that adapter DOES support the iPhone.
The two adapters are completely non-interchangeable.
Somebody PLEASE tell me this isn’t true…

I have a 2004 ML350 and the V60 Puck that I’ve had sitting in a box for months. I am still using my standard v60 because I was never happy with the initial Bluetooth performance and my RAZR. Now the V60 is dead and I want an iPhone. Not worth buying another MB B60 at this point.
Are there 2 versions of the V60 puck, I have to check the model number on the box.
Are their versions of the iPhone S/W that work and others that don’t work? I need a way to test it out without buying an iPhone and porting my number from Version to AT&T.
Does it download only the contacts on the SIM, or does it do SIM first then memory? I have alot of contacts which I can manage, but want the at least specific ones on the display to load.

I have a 2007 ML with phone wiring (386). I installed the bluetooth HFP (the black one, not the silver MHI)to pair with iPhone and they work perfectly. I just have the dealer installed the iPod integretion kit and having a problem. Ipod feature work fine with in dash song display and control but my car phone feature is disabled. It says no phone on both displays. I checked in the iPhone and the pairing still with the cradle. The phone sound still direct to the car but no go to the head unit (Audio 20). Is this because of wrong part? Where should I start? The new iPod kit of change the HFP cradle to the MHI? Anybody experienced this problem?

Solution: Common problem with pairing any phone including the iPhone and maintaining connection. This happens frequently when more than one phone has been paired with your MB. Also, answers on using MB OEM iPod adapter for your iPhone.
If your iPhone (or any other phone) pairs with the MB bluetooth but the connection or pairing drops on your MB phone command screen showing no phone connected, there is a workaround. I have an 08 S550 and this happens with both my Blackberry and iPhone. First, turn off your bluetooth on your iPhone or any other phone. Next, go to the MB Phone Command screen DATA/CONNECTIONS and deauthorize all previously connected phones. Then, do a hard reset on the MB BT adapter. Remove the car bluetooth adapter from the cradle by pressing down on the small black button on the top of the adapter, slide the adapter towards the rear until it pops out, and re-insert while holding down the larger round reset button for 10 seconds – the blue light will flash. DO NOT SEARCH for bluetooth devices from the MB Phone Command screen. If you do this it will find your iPhone and you will be prompted on both the MB Phone Command screen and next your mobile phone for the PIN. They will pair but it will never stay paired. Instead, after your hard reset on the MB BT adapter, activate the bluetooth on your iPhone and begin to search for new devices. The iPhone will begin searching for devices automatically. With a Blackberry and many other phones you may need to tell it to search. If the blue light is no longer flashing on the MB bluetooth adapter, hold down the reset button again until the blue light begins to flash. Just wait – be patient. Your iPhone should still be searching. Let the iPhone find the MB bluetooth adapter first. Discover and pair FROM THE PHONE – not the car. Once it finds your MB be patient and wait until the iPhone asks for the PIN first. Enter the PIN on the iPhone first then the MB Command screen will ask for the PIN. They will stay paired.
This happens with a lot of bluetooth phones and I can never maintain the connection unless I repeat this sequence. The key is to let the iPhone or any other BT phone do the search and prompt you for the PIN first.
ANOTHER ADVISORY FOR iPHONE ONLY: If you have the iPod adapter built into your car it works perfectly for your music and bluetooth pairing AND it charges your iPhone. But when you connect the iPhone to the iPod adapter the screen on your iPhone will not recognize the iPhone and will ask you if you want to turn off your phone function as a safety feature. Answer NO. Everything will work just fine.

Just got the Nokia 6500 Classic and want to pair it up with my CLS 500 (07) Command. I have no pair code as my previous phone was a fully integrated 6230i ( old hat and heavy). I have heard it can be paired. I have tried but the “connected” drops out to “not connected” after about 5 seconds.
Any advise?

The earlier bluetooth adapter would not download phone book, etc. The new adapter will (last two or three years), though you will still find both part numbers for sale. I’ve owned and experienced both.

The old Bluetooth adapter B67875839 does NOT download the iphone address book to the car system but the new Bluetooth adapter B67875878 does download the addressbook to the car.

I have a 2001 CLK430. I had to get a Motorola BT Adapter for it to use my RAZR with the car’s command system. Everything works fine at this point but now I want to test the fates and buy the new IPHONE. Any info on whether it wll work in this car. I saw and earlier post that it would work with the 2004 BT adapter but I hate to buy the IPHONE and find that it doesn’t work. Anyinfo would be most helpful.

Hi, I have a iPhone and a 2009 C230 and I can paired my iPhone with the car but…
1.) Cannot upload any of my contacts/address book into the car’s system–how do I do that? When I make a phone call, it either show “unknown” or just the number, doesn’t show the contact name.
2.) Cannot control: play, stop, next music playing functions on the car’s system or the steering wheel. I have to use my iPhone to do so. Is this normal? Or can you control these function with the system, b/c its really annoying when you have to go back to my iPhone to skip a song, etc, when I’m driving….

I have an iPhone Cradle, wired to iPod Kit and COMAND on 2006 MC CLK 350
It all works but I have not got cosmetics final on the wire between Iphone Cradle and iPod kit. The iPhave cradle has stupidly short cable for my car… and I probably need to cut it before the plug end, and extend it from 4″ to a foot.
Then I could feed (may require drilling) the wire out of site and reconnect things.. Does anyone have the schematics of the cable out of the iPhone cradle, before I do anything. Advice?

I have a 2009 Mercedes SL550 and an iPhone 3G. The bluetooth cell phone connection works perfectly, but there is no uncluttered way to charge the phone. The connector in the center console fits an iPod, and the plug fits the iPhone, but you get a message that it is not compatable with this device (Phone), so it doesn’t charge.
Also, does anyone know of a connector that will charge a Motorola Razr from this outlet in the center console?

I just got the iPhone 3G and was able to pair it with my 2003 SL500 with the BT Adaptor that is several years old. It even loaded the address book. The iPhone is at software level 2.1. All I had to do was hold the button on the adapter down for 10 seconds, turn on Bluetooth on the iPhone, wait for is to detect it, enter the PIN, and I was done.

I currently have an iPhone 3G and the older BT puck that goes into the upper center console area of my 2004 E320. My contact list will not sync with the car. My question is whether there is a different functionality that allows the contact list syncing to work with the newer “pig tail” BT adaptor? Found that V60 Bluetooth adapter and a cable is required for the bluetooth installation; however dealer was not sure, whether iphone works with this or not.
Request you to clarify that, whether V60 is compatible with iphone or not.

I have my phone paired in a 2008 CLK 550 and everything works, except voicemail will not go thorough the car. I still have to manually switch it over to the headset to hear the messages. If I leave it on MB Bluetooth, nothing come through. Anyone know how to fix?

You can’t use iPhone visual voicemail over the bluetooth connection but you can “call in” to your voicemail–here’s how: Press and hold the “1” key on the Navigation telephone keypad. Hold it until the COMMAND system display screen shows “dialing ” and your phone number. You’ll hear a voicemail prompt. You can now use the telephone keypad to go through your voicemail using typical old-style voicemail commands such as 1 to listen and 7 to delete a message.

I have a 2007 GL450 with the Mercedes-Benz Bluetooth® Cradle for Motorola V3 RAZR phone – i.e. it allows the RAZR phone to plug-n-charge.
So, it is NOT the Bluetooth Interface Module.
I now have an iPhone – Do I have to replace the RAZR cradle for a the Interface module? When I try to connect, the iPhone does not see the MB bluetooth device. Are they not compatible?

I have a 2003 CL500 with the phone cradle installed and the intergrated system in it. The dealership is telling me I need to buy an adapter for the bluetooth to work but I heard the V60 Puck will do the same thing if I can find one. I have the IPhnoe so if anyone knows please let me know….

my iphone doesn’t find the bluetooth connecton in my s550 2008. the car can find the phone, but the phone is unable to find the car, making pairing impossible. Have reset every available known way. phone is able to pair with ear bluetooth. so it can pair. also my wife’s iphone doesn’t pair with the car, even tho the car finds it. Any ideas?

I have an 08 ML 320CDI. I cannot get my iPhone to pair. I am using the A 204 820 31 51 Cradle and have tried both the first gen iPhone and 3G iPhone. The system recognizes the phone in the cradle, says it is intitilizing and then after a few minutes says “Phone Off.” The blue led on the cradle flashes etc. it just never pairs! Defective cradle? Any suggestions?

The best way to Bluetooth pair an iPhone 3G in an 09 Mercedes S550, for example, is to be sure and take it outside of the showroom. If you don’t it will find every cell phone in the building and crash. We had to disconnect the battery and start all over again. Be sure you are outside when you do this pairing.

Unfortunately the cars that are not pre-wired are very expensive to have wired–on the order of $1000 or more. I think you’re better off getting a visor-clip bluetooth speakerphone like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16875998094 That’s for phone–for Audio, your dealership can add the wired audio adapter for bluetooth for about $500. The bottom line is that if it didn’t come with the car, it’s expensive.

Yes, it’s only possible if the car is wired. Most cars imported into the USA are wired, although some 350 models are shipped without cellphone pre-wiring. It’s technically a factory option, so if the dealership orders a car without it, it won’t have it. It’s standard on all 450 and higher engine sizes.

Picked up my 2007 ML350 last night with the bluetooth adapter installed. Went through the pairing process and within a couple of minutes my iPhone and my address book were in and working perfectly. That being said, it does take some time for the address book to fully populate. Later in the evening, I paired my girlfriends Blackberry Curve and although it paired just as easily, the phonebook did take quite a bit longer to populate.

I would appreciate it if someone with similar experience can help me with this problem: My iPhone pairs up with the BT-MHI in my E350, and all the phone functions work fine in the car. However, when I take my iPhone out of the car and to my office, I run into problems with the iphone’s phone function. That is, when I call someone, I can hear them fine, but they cannot hear me at all! And I have checked that the iPhone is not set on Mute. Hi Fred,
Your problem is that your office is within bluetooth range of your car, it remains paired, and the bluetooth adapter remains on for some time after the car has been shut off. You have two solutions: In call, switch the “audio source” from Bluetooth to handset. You’ll have to do this twice–my phone reconnects to bluetooth after the call is connected.
The other solution is to park more than 100 feet away from your office.

Tom–If you’re talking about the warning that comes up on the phone, you can ignore it, the iPhone will work just fine. If you’re talking about the fact that the phone won’t charge, then you can buy a “car kit charge adapter” from the Apple Store that will allow 3G and 3GS iPhones to charge from car kits. The phone should work however even though it doesn’t charge.

HI PANOS–The 2008 C and newer have built-in bluetooth factory standard (at least in the U.S.). Syncing the phone is straight-forward, but I have not succeeded in getting it to download my address book. I don’t own one of these–I’ve only been able to test it when my car is in for service.

AS A GENERAL RULE–If you can’t get your phone to sync (iPhone or whatever), or if you don’t know what components you need to do what you want:
Go talk to your dealer! They know all this stuff, and get you setup!

I have a 2003 c32, I would like to know if the v60 blue tooth puck is compatible with the i-phone 3g, before I buy it.

HI Joe–All iPhones use the same bluetooth hardware and software, so there’s no difference between the models. You can purchase the puck at any Benz Dealership. Worst case they’ll have to order it.

Hi Jim,
I rented a 2009 C class and verified that I could not download the address book either, so you’re not doing anything technically wrong. MB must be using a different bluetooth system in the new C class. I would call the TeleAid operator and ask them what to do about it, or go to the dealer. It looks like we end users might have to push Benz to do a firmware update to get their new Bluetooth system working as well as their old one.

I have a 2010 E550 Coupe. Pairing and adding the address book from my 3GS iPhone was easy. I have one of those adapters so that it will also charge when connected. The problem is that the interface only sends a charge if I get in the car, close the door, and wait for the dashlights to go out before I push the start button. I’ve read of other folks with the issue, but is there a workaround? It’s hot in the car waiting to start it.

Artis–Was your iPhone charger built into the car or is it plugged into a cigarette lighter? The Benz iPod car kit actually requires a 3rd party adapter that you can buy at the Apple Store to charge 3G and 3GS iPhones because it charges from the 12v Firewire circuit which those phones lack. The adapter converts the 12v Firewire power to 5v USB power that can charge the newer iPhones. Go to the apple Store and ask them about the adapter.

Matthew- I have the adapter and when the car actually sends power through the inteface, it charges just fine. Turns out that the car only sends a charge to the interface if I get in, close the door, and wait the 40-60 seconds it takes for the car to power down (lights in the gauge cluster go back off). If I start the car then, it will charge (through the adapter) just fine. Otherwise there is simply no power going through the interface cable. It’s the strangest thing as it otherwise works fine. Apparently MBUSA is aware of the problem as it affects all of the newest cars.

I have a new cradle fitted to an S320 2008 with integrated phone system.THe cradle is for an iphone 3g and worked normally until I downloaded apple’s latest software update.The comand system now does not recognise the phone even though I have repaired the phone to the car.Any ideas?

Hi Mark,
You can have both. I use both all the time and they work together just fine. The cost depends entirely upon whether your car is pre-wired for cellular or not. If it is, then it’s about a $300 BT puck. If not, it’s about $1000 for the wiring work and puck. The only way to know is to take it to be Benz dealer and ask. If they tell you they can’t have both, tell them you know it works.

I guess I don’t know what you’re saying–the cradle is an iPod adapter? To my knowledge, there is no “cradle” for the iPhone, the connection to the phone system is bluetooth wireless only. If you have a hardwired connector, that’s iPod support for your stereo and is actually completely separate.
Probably you need to delete all of your existing bluetooth pairings and re-pair with the car.

Hi Steve,
The cable is for connecting the iPhone’s iPod functionality to your command system–music only. You can ignore the incompatibility message or press no–it still works for music. Once you’ve plugged it in, you can switch Audio to AUX and listen to the iPod, and change the songs in the in-dash display.
By the way, the car will not charge your iPhone 3GS without a charging adapter installed in-line that you can buy at an Apple Store, because Apple changed the way the iPhone 3G charges. Many car kits no longer work without this adapter.
The phone is totally separate and works via wireless bluetooth. You need to replace the Motorola handset adapter that came with your car (looks like a cradle and has a plug) with the Bluetooth MHI adapter that you can purchase from the Benz Dealership. Once you have that, go through the instructions to pair bluetooth with your iPhone and you’re good to go.

Bryon (#153)–Nope, still not possible. This is a feature Apple would have to add to the iPhone. Ken (#154)–What indications are you getting? If it’s an error message that says the accessory was not made for your device, ignore the message, it works anyway. Is it simply not doing anything? The adapter should be completely compatible with the iPod Touch so take it to your dealer and ask them to fix it. You might want to make sure you’ve updated to the latest iPod firmware first. Bill (#155)–Yes, it’s annoying that the fast dial buttons call random entries. I’ve not found a way around that.

Hi Steve–Reading the booklet that came with the iPod adapter (its in with your auto manual) is your first resource. The iPod is acting correctly. Once it’s connected, you press the “Audio” button on your radio, then the AUX soft-button that appears. Once you’ve done that, the iPod songs and tracks appear in the in-dash display and you use the steeringwheel buttons to select.

Deborah–I have not yet figured out how to get contacts to work in the new C-Class. In my 2009 CLK, they upload automatically. The new standard bluetooth system doesn’t seem to do this, and since I don’t have one of the cars, I’ve not been able to work out the method. If anyone with a new C class has figured out how to upload contacts, please post.

Hi guys, not sure if this is only for iphones but best site found so far regarding feedback. The problem i’m having is with my Nokia E61i and my car kit, it connects fine to the bluetooth car kit in the new Merc E300, when i answer the phone on the car display a pic of a microphone with a line through it appears, after that you can’t hear or speak to anyone. i have to turn off the radio and switch it back on that’s the only way it works. Come next call back to square one. Can’t find any setting son the phone that would Mute the call or in the car. Please help, other phones seem to work fine.

Hi David–Yes, this is specific to iPhone, but I can tell you that iPhones don’t have this problem. My guess is your phone is set to mute the BT mic for some reason. What happens if you press your mute button or the mute button on the Benz command system on the dash?

Matthew, On my previous BMW X5 the Motorola phone allowed you to set speed dial numbers in memory such that you pressed and held, say “1” and it would dial the number in that location.
I now have a ML350/iPhone that works perfectly. However, in comparison to the old car/phone, when I push and hold “1” on the ML 350 keypad, for example, the ATT Voice Mail number comes up. Pushing “2” brings up a different number.
Question: How do I control which iPhone number assigns to the numbers on the ML 350 keypad?

Hi Rick–The speed-dial feature doesn’t work with the iPhone. It worked perfectly with my earlier motorola phones, but the “favorites” in the iPhone don’t implement the proper bluetooth profile to be dialed by pressing a single button. What winds up happening (this is a guess) is that the first 10 entries in your address book before a sort order is applied are what get dialed. So it’s pretty much completely random, and therefore useless. If I can figure out how the entries are actually being selected, I might be able to come up with a hack for getting contacts sync’d in the right order to select them, but I doubt it’ll be easy enough to bother with. This is something we’d need to complain to Apple about.

I recently purchased my first Mercedes-Benz, 2010 GLK350. I have the iPod integration kit but not the nav system. There is no problem using the phone function via Bluetooth. The iPod cable in the glove box works but; you can only pick the next or previous song on the iPhone. In other words, you can’t see a list of the songs on the iPhone and then select it. There is no way to upload the iPhone address book without the nav system. The iPhone does not support vcards, so you do not have that option either. If the MB is a Bluetooth device, why can’t I just send vcards from a laptop with a Bluetooth device? The Mercedes only recognizes phones via Bluetooth? The only way I could upload addresses was to revive my old LG phone, add phone contacts, and then use that phones Bluetooth function to upload contacts, via vcards, once it was “synced” with the Mercedes.

I have a 2005 C-320 4-Matic and just got a new iPhone 3GS for my birthday. Love em both. Is this to say that can integrate these two and use the in-dash display for the iPhone’s iPod tracks and also the phone buttons on the steering wheel? Does the 320 (normally) have a bluetooth interface or does it come in the interface you buy? I have a dead CD cassette deck in the glovebox which had a fiber loop to it, and this would be a great upgrade and fix for it.

Chuck B.–for 2005, yes, you need the iPod integration kit which probably can just replace your dead CD player ($350 at MB Dealer). This will show you your tracks and playlists in-dash. You’ll need a charge adapter to charge your iPhone–click my URL link for the item in the Apple store. For audio, you need to determine if the car is “pre-wired” for telephone. If so, there should be a jack in the center console. If so, you can just add the bluetooth MHI adapter (also about $350). If not, your car will have to be wired for telephony and that’s just not worth it, I’d go with a visor-mount BT speakerphone.

I just took delivery iof our 2010 E350. We could pair the Treo 700P without problems but could not pair my Blackberry 8310. The BB would say “pairing complete” but the car would say that the pairing was inseccessful. The BB works great with my Jawbobe bluetooth device so we know that the Bluetooth is functional on both the car and the phones.
any advice on how to pair the BB 8310 to the 2010 MB E350?

@Chuck–Unfortunately, Benz is using a completely different new NAV for the 2009 C and GLK class that I don’t know anything about. The integrated bluetooth in this system isn’t nearly as “universal” as the previous MHI-based system. Call 1-800-FOR-MERC and ask them what should be done.

I have an 2006 slk 280, with the DVD Command Navigation/Sat/5 Disc./aux I have recently added the bluetooth and integrates the phone functions on the iphone great, however my ipod functions does not. I guess I need the ipod integration kit (Part # B67824217). Several Questions. 1. Based on my discription of my audio system. What is it? Is it an Audio 20, Audio 50 or Command? How do I identify it. 2. If i get the integration kit, do i have to purchase the ipod cradle too or can I just leave it out and connect via bluetooth directly to access the ipod function? 3. @al–You have the “Command” system. You do need the iPod integration kit for audio. You don’t need a cradle–the iPod kit is a cable in the glove box that you attach your iPhone to. You can probably add the iPod integration kit without removing your CD changer, but ask your dealer. I have both in my 2009 CLK 550.

I have a 2008 S550 with MB bluetooth (as well as ipod integration kit). My Razr synced no problem since I had the S550.
I just bought an iPhone 3GS. I’m unable to get the two paired. I successfully got it to pair up with the password of 62872, but the telephone is always at an OFF position. Looking at the iPhone, looks like it does not recognize the MB bluetooth.
Do I need to purchase an accessory to get it working? Thanks for all your suggestions.

Hi CML–You have everything you need. Try deleting the pairing in your iPhone and re-creating it. If that doesn’t work, reboot your iPhone by holding down the top button until the red slider appears, and sliding to off. Once it’s completely off, hold down the top button again to restart it. Then delete any existing pairings and try again. Finally, upgrade your iPhone to the latest firmware by connecting it to your computer and opening iTunes.
This problem was somewhat common in earlier iPhone firmware revisions.

I have a 2009 C300 with the ipod intergration kit in the glove box. I just bought an iPhone 3GS (16 gig) yesterday. I used the pairing code “0 0 0 0 0” (5 zeros) and it paired. However, when I plug the phone into the ipod adapter, it says something about how I can not charge with this adapter.
Everything I keep reading says it will intergrate and charge my iphone, but I can’t get it to work.

I took the advice I read here and called the Mercedes dealership and they’re telling me that the 3GS iPhone charging circuitry has been changed by Apple, which is why it won’t charge with the iPod intergration kit in my 2009 C300.
They said I need to buy a new cable from them, and have it put it, which will cost me approximately $200, and Mercedes won’t warranty it.
So, with this said, Mathew, is there a way I can work around this? Does apple sell a less expensive adapter that will hook up my iphone to the docking cable?

Hi Jason,
There is a simple and inexpensive solution to the 3G/3GS charging problem. The problem occurs because automotive cables provide +12v charging voltage, which all iPods and iPhones used to charge from. However, with the iPhone 3G, Apple disconnected the +12v input leaving only the +5v input to save a chip. This basically made all car chargers obsolete. The following adapter, available at the Apple store for $20, solves the problem by downconverting the +12v power to +5v and putting it on the correct pin. You can just leave it attached to the cable in your glovebox.

I have spoken to people at my MB dealer/service 3 times now about hooking up my 3g iphone for both telephone and ipod functionality, and they continue to tell me its not possible. my car is pre wired for phone, and has the cd changer in the dash. it is a 2007 c230 sport. can you lay out which parts i need and what i should tell these guys so that i can just make it happen. i’m looking to control phone and music through command screen/steering wheel as well as the on the dash audio unit. also, my car is not equipped with navi if that makes a diff.

Hi Bryan,
I don’t have part numbers–they aren’t visible on the devices in my car. Just have your dealership install the MHI cradle for your car (it differs from mine anyway) and install the iPod interface–those are both standard parts and your dealership will know what they are.
The MHI-bluetooth adapter is a puck that inserts into the MHI cradle and converts it to bluetooth:

You will be able to keep your in-dash DVD player (I have both) and your phone winds up in your glove-box, connected to the iPod adapter and charge converter. The MHI cradle and bluetooth adapter go in your center console.

The problem with buying parts from someone else is that your dealer generally won’t install them. You can get the MHI anywhere because it snaps into the crade, but you will need to have someone install the cradle and the iPod integration kit. You’re looking at $350 odd for the iPod integration kit, about $300 for the phone cradle, and $300 or so for the MHI handset so I’d budget $1000.

I was one of the first users of it in my 2004 CLK, which has the same COMMAND system as your 2003 E320. They’ve got the problems I ran into ironed out. You should be able to google it. I’m not sure they’re still being made, but they’ll have something that will work.
For phone calls, you need to have your car pre-wired for the v60 cell phone, and you’ll need the v60 replacement bluetooth adapter:

Yep, you can absolutely do that. Here’s what it’s going to take: Firstly go to http://www.sparkfun.com and purchase the “Arduino Deumilanova” along with the “BlueSMiRF” bluetooth module and the GPS module. Connect them together, download the firmware, and connect them to a +12v to +5v car adapter. Remember to include the LAT+LONG of your house position along withe the firmware download. Sync your iPhone to the BlueSMiRF module.
Now whenever you’re within a 2-mile radius of your home, the arduino modules will trigger your iPhone to call home and transmit a DTMF tone sequence. That covers the car side of the equation.
For your home, you’ll need the following equipment:
1) Minifridge 2) INSTEON OutletLINC programmable home outlet. 3) INSTEON I/OLinc Telephone Alert Kit
Wire the telephone alert kit to the I/O Linc and install it next to your telephone. Re-wire your countertop outlet using the OutletLINC and linc it to the I/O Linc as per the linking instructions for the device. Plug the mini-fridge into the I/O Linc.
Now, whenever you are determined to be within five miles of your home and in-bound, the arduino will dial through your cellphone to your home phone, and send the necessary tones to trigger the I/O Linc, thereby shutting off the fridge and causing your cheese to warm to room temperature.
If you find the cheese is still cold when you get home, just increase the dialing radius in the arduino firmware to 10 or 20 miles, depending on how fast you drive. you’ll have to calibrate this yourself unfortunately.
Remember, if you have any questions, just call your Benz dealer and ask them how to get this working.

Hi Matthew, i have a 2009 MBSL550 and a blackberry curve 8900 phone, they pair and work perfectly, the only problem is if i’m on a call and i pull the key out of the ignition to exit the car, the call is dropped even if i have switched call to handset before exiting. any fix to this problem? thanks

When I try to dial a ten digit number from the Mercedes interface, I get the call cannot be completed. When I dial the same ten digit number from the phone itself (still connected to the car) the call goes through just fine. I am able to speak and listen through the car’s microphone and speakers. Hi Matt, I have a 2008 GL450 with bluetooth (b67875839) and ipod cable. I want to use the phonebook and sms features. Do I have to upgrade to the B67875878 or B67876131? Is there any difference? Also, what should I get to allow my iphone to charge using the ipod cable? How can I get the song list to appear on the car screen? I read this whole page but can’t seem to find a clear answer. Hi RAW–The phonebook feature works fine in my 2007 GL450 with B67875878 and in my 2009 CLK550 with B67876131. It should be working fine with b67875839 which I believe I had in my 2007 CLK. In any case, SMS is basically non-functional in all of them. The song lists appear in the dash speedometer screen, not on the COMMAND console, and you flip through them using the steering wheel controls. For charging your iPhone while connected, look at comment #187. Good luck!

Hi Rene– I don’t have a solution for the C300 2010. I’ve only had limited time with a loaner and I couldn’t get it working with contact sync. I would call 1-800-FOR-MERC and ask Mercedes what to do about it. Next time I have one I’ll work on it and if I find a solution I’ll post it here.

I just purchased a 07 E350, it is wired for bluetooth i have the adapter (B67875878), the only issue does it sync up with the newer modle of motorla cell phones. the ones up on wilreless4mb are old. My current phone is a samsung u640, seems Verizon no longer carries the model required

This page is specific to the iPhone–however, if your car has Bluetooth it should work just fine with any newer Motorola phone. Your dealership can help you get it paired.

Hi, I recently purchased a 2010 C300 sport.
2 problems I have encountered and would appreciate any help
1) Although my iPhone 3G syncs with the bluetooth for calls, there is no way to upload the address book
2) When the iPhone is plugged into the iPod integration kit in the glove box, it will not charge the iPhone (says it is not a compatible device)

Hi Michael–To solve (2), read up in the comments and purchase a charge adapter. The note on the phone that says it’s not compatible refers to the fact that it was designed for iPods, not iPhones, and you may hear interference. It’s not a real issue and you can ignore the warning.
I rented a C300 and determined that the system does not support syncing the address book with an iPhone. It does support Motorola bluetooth phones however, and keeps the address book once synced. The (only) solution to this problem is to purchase an old Motorola phone such as a Razor or KRZR, sync it to your PC or Mac address book with phone numbers, and then sync the Motorola phone to your car. This will then work correctly when your iPhone is associated with the car.

I was in contact with MB Today. They said that the 2010 c300 only accepts V-Cards (called business cards in the MM system) via bluetooth. It does not have the capability to sync a phone book. In addition, the iPhone does not have the ability to send V-Cards bia bluetooth (havent been able to find an app that does it either). Is it possible to get an iPhone integration kit or something like that?

Nope-that’s what the old motorola phone is for. It can send vCards via bluetooth. It occurs to me that your laptop might be able to do it as well, but you’d probably need to be an IT guy to get it working.

Hi Jon–thanks for the kind words. 1) It sounds like you’re pre-wired. Do you see something that looks like an RJ-45 jack (like a computer network port) with a small BNC (antenna barrel connector) next to it? 2) Correct. You can also get the V60 cradle which might have been standard for this model and year (I’m not sure) with the V60 Bluetooth puck. 3) It’s plug and play 4) This one plugs into the MOST (Media Oriented Serial Transport) bus behind your COMMAND head end or radio in the dash. Depending upon your level of skills and toolset, you may want to just have the dealer do it or take it to an Ed & Als to have installed.
Also, be sure to check out the Dension Gateways part number GWL1MO1 or GW 51MO2. These are iPod, USB, and Bluetooth gateways that are compatible with the stock MBZ Radios and COMMAND systems for the C2003. I’m trying to help my parents, ’07 ML63, they have adapter B6 787 5869 which has a cradle for a Motorola phone they no longer own. They nor the dealer were able to connect their new phone, they were told they need a new adaptor (the current adaptor is a snap-in style, no wires). Is this accurate, and if so, can they use the 5878 or do they need the 6131?

They need the 5878, which is a snap-in replacement for the cradle they have. The 6131 is not an MHI compatible snap-in, it connects directly to the cellphone pre-wiring with a different interface and is for use in newer non-MHI cars where blue tooth is the only option.

BMW’s have a system where you connect the phone to some wiring vs bluetooth. I’m riding a C300 Luxury w/COMMAND. Is there any equivalent? One thing I’m really interested in via wiring is it then can use the cars antenna (if designed that way) since the windows in these cars cut down cell signals. I have a Treo 650 but will move to IPhone 4g when available.

Hi Anon, You can only “hardwire” phones for which MB sells a compatible MHI cradle. These are all Motorola phones such as the old V60, the RAZR, KRZR, v710, etc. None of them are current phones and none of them are smart phones. For those, your only option is bluetooth.

An update to posts 221 and 222 if anyone is interested. I investigated the Dension Gateway 500 as an option for operating my iPhone through my 2005 Mercedes C230 Audio 20 head unit. Dension technical support said that the Gateway 500 is compatible with the iPod/iPhone for audio but not for phone since the Bluetooth interface BTA1500 does not work with US systems. This is unfortunate since the GW500 sounds like a great solution otherwise since it ties directly into the head units MOST interface. On the plus side, I learned how to tear into my dash to extract the head unit.

Matthew, As noted in post 227, Im giving up on the Dension solution and am refocussed on the Mercedes solution. The Dension incompatibility has only served to reinforce my paranoia about wasting money on something that doesnt work so I double checked my 2005 C230 Audio 20 wiring to try to make sense of the system. I see the connector and coax you refer to in post 222 in the center console. What I can’t figure out is where that harness goes to since it does not seem to go to the head unit. Is there some central control unit somewhere that communicates to the head unit and dashboard that I can’t see? If so, can I be assured that the center console harness is connected there and commincates with it? My concern comes from the fact that the car was not purchased with the phone option so Im worried the harness might just be dead. Thanks in advance. Jon

Hi Jon–The harness actually used to go to a controller under the driver’s seat, which then connected to the head unit via a simple MOST or D2B connector in the head unit, and because that’s a bus you might not see anything extra. That cell phone controller unit may be moved in latter models into the dash or below the center console, but you won’t see anything specific going into the head unit. If you’ve got the jack and coax connector, you’re pre-wired from the factory and should be ready to go by just adding an MHI cradle and a blue-tooth adapter, as well as an iPod adapter if you want sound. Sorry to hear about your experiences with the Dension equipment–I’ve not used the recent versions of that stuff because it’s always hard to get 3rd party equipment working correctly and there’s very little support.

I have a 2005 WBD211 E350. I want to purchase an iphone, but cannot decide to get the MB bluetooth adapter or the MB iphone full kit adapter. I have heard the bluetooth has a lot of echo. I know the bluetooth has the advantage to suit any phone, but my main concern is reception & clarity. Can you advise any advantage for one or the other.

Hi Barry,
The bluetooth adapter doesn’t have any particular problem with echo in either of my cars. It’s quite clear and works well. The hardwired cradle actually communicates with the phone using Bluetooth anyway and the phone works even when it’s not in the cradle, so there’s no difference.
The wired port is used for iPod music integration, antenna connection, and charging.
The biggest differences are:
1) The cradle allows for charging and connection to the car antenna. 2) The cradle prevents you from using any case on the iPhone at all. You have to take your iPhone out of any case you may use it with. 3) If you have an iPod integration kit, it will have to be re-wired to work with the cradle.
I use the bluetooth adapter primarily because my car already had an iPod integration kit when I bought it and because I use a case that wouldn’t work with the cradle. If reception are most important, however, get the cradle and forgo a case.

The phone paired OK with the bluetooth module but I cannot get the contact list to download to the COMMAND center. Does anyone have any suggestions? Hi Gene–I’m not exactly certain which Nav system you have, but it’s likely that it’s the same as the 2008 C-Class. Benz changed the address book upload compatibility to a method that the iPhone does not support. See Posts 211..214 for a solution.

I have a 2008 MB E350 and an Iphone 3GS. I have the bluetooth puck for my MB. When I sync the iphone with the MB Comand system, I get duplicate phone numbers in the Comand system and it fills up the memory before it gets to the end of my contacts. It puts 2 entries in for every phone number in my contacts from the Iphone. Any suggestions? MB support does not have an answer for this problem.

Hi Ed–That’s an odd one. Any chance you have multiple phone numbers per contact in your iPhone address book? Or the same number listed twice, both as a work and mobile contact? Sounds like a data problem with your contacts. It’s normal behavior for the Command system to show every phone number for a contact.

Hi Matt, First of all, hats off to you! You have no idea what kind of a big help you are being to us all!
Now here’s what I have: 1) 2004 E500 Its pre-wired, but there is no equipment in the center arm rest. When I press the TEL button, it says ‘No Phone Installed’ 2) Blackberry Storm 2 My Requirement: Be able to make/attend calls using the COMMAND system of the vehicle and access my phone book too
If you could you tell me in simple steps what i exactly need to do to satisfy my requirement, that would be much appreciated! Hi Prasan–Read Comment #13 for what you need. I don’t know anything about Blackberries, but presuming that they’re standard bluetooth devices, you need the MHI Cradle and an MHI Bluetooth adapter. You can scan the previous comments for part numbers.

I was told by MB that the address book is stored in the BT adapter, not the command center. I would like to clear out the entire address book, as the first time I synched my Blackberry it maxed out the address book on the benz and only stored up to the “T”‘s. I figured out how to store fewer entries, but I’m now trying to delete all the ones in there. The command center won’t even let me delete them one by one; it just say’s “phone book full” when I push “ok” to confirm delete.
I’m guessing the phone book is so full there isn’t memory left to proccess a delete command.
Anyway, any clue on how to wipe the address book from the BT. I’ve got the long silver one (on an ’08 E63)

Prasen – Check out the link below, it gives links to compatible phones and you can pick the model year of your car to see which adapter will work. I looked up your 2004 E-class and while it looks like they make an adapter, the list of compatible phones is really short. The 2005 and newer ones have a long list. I had the same situation with my ’08 E63 and bought the long silver BT, and it worked like a charm with a BB Tour, with the only problem being I overloaded the address book and now can’t delete them.

I’m using the B67875878 puck and I also have the iphone cradle. My iphone 3G (version 4.1 os) seems to pair / connect fine (Both cradle and BT) but the command says “Telephone Unavailable”. I can only call out on my phone and when I do call out it gives me the option to select MB Phone System / Iphone / speaker. If I select MB Phone System I don’t hear anything. Incoming calls go directly to the phone on most cases, sometimes I get no ring and directly to voicemail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have a 2008 E350 with the B67875878 Bluetooth interface module and an iPhone 4 with firmware 4.1. Like Gene in post #232, my phone pairs up just great, it downloads the “Dialed #” and “Recvd #” list with caller names where applicable, but it would not download the actual contact list. I know this is possible as Ed Trolley had shown in post #238. I have read other posts where people have confirmed that they have no issue with this function. I have done the reset and re-pair function a couple of times and it made no difference. I even culled the contact list down to 70 names with maybe 80 numbers. This is a real head scratcher. Do you know what may resolve this?

Jack–read through comments #211..214. Unfortunately Benz changed the address book away from sync to permanently stored contacts that can only be transferred via the “vCard” standard which iPhones do not support. This means you need another phone, like an old RAZR or KRZR to sync to your computer and transfer contacts to the Benz. This only needs to be done once. It’s a PIA, and I think we should all complain to Apple and Benz about it.

Steve–my iPhone 4 pairs just fine in both my 2009 CLK 3550 and my 2011 GL350. You should take your car to a Benz dealership and ask them for help pairing, as all Bluetooth Benz modules should work with it.
It is likely that it won’t charge as 2007 era iPod adapter cables require an adapter from Apple to charge. See comment #130 and read through these comments for other solutions.

Hello,
I installed the MHI and Bluetooth puck into my prewired 2007 C230 yesterday. It works right away, sync, download 3 diff cell phones and make/receive calls on all of them in my garage.
This morning I started the car and the puck if off. Turn it on from the Audio Control and make call. After a few mins, the puck power down (Blue LED off). I keep turning it on by turn my iPhone BT off/on, turn on the puck manually and off/on my car but it keeps going off after a few mins. Any suggestion?

Matt, Can you help me I have a 2011 E350 and when my iphone is attached to the Media interface cable and BT is on data but not audio sound will stream from the ipod. I have to shut BT off to hear sound. Is this the way the system is built?

I have a CLK 320 2009 I want to have an IPOD, someone told me it can be connected by a connection in the glove box, is this the case it seems far to simple

I can’t seem to import addresses from my iPhone 4 into my 2011 AMG SLS. My phone is paired and works through the car, the address book just doesn’t come across, nor do import options. Have I done something wrong? The import address book feature is unresponsive.

@Bruce–If you you’ve got sync you’re doing everything right. Is your iphone on the latest firmware? I’d check with your dealer next.

Do I have to purchase the newer BT MHI Part#B67875878 to achive address book transfer?

Likely you will. Try taking it to a dealer and having them test. 2006 was a time of significant change in bluetooth and I’m not exactly sure which COMMAND system the SLK came with. Get your dealer involved.

Thanks Matt, I got the dealer to let me try the new BT NHI (part # 6-7-87-6131, the new 2011 smaller black one) and it worked for all functions including address book download, received and dialed calls. Thanks again for you help with this topic.

Both wife and I have iPhones 3gs thatwe bluetoothed to our 2011 Mercedes E350, both units are working fine but need to give each a separed names as now in car shows (2) Iphone’s don’t which is which without checking each phone.
