Review: Sims 2 for Nintendo DS
Hey, all you people who think video games are just a bunch of people shooting each other and driving cars really fast, try Sims 2 for Nintendo DS. I know, I know… I tried The Sims back when they came out and hated them too. I had one of those zen moments when I was making my Sim wash the dishes and I could see the dirty dishes in my own sink from the computer. I never played that game again. Sims 2 for Nintendo DS is different, I promise.
Firstly, there is a lot less dish washing, showering and sleeping in this game than in the original Sims version. I don’t know if it’s because they had to simplify it for the DS system or if they realized that watching your Sim wash her dishes isn’t all that fun. Either way, the Sim maintenance is still part of the game, but it usually happens when I have to go to the bathroom, so it’s just fine with me.
Secondly, they have added a simple story line to the game. In Sims 2 for the DS, I have to run a hotel and get its score higher by building guest rooms and other attractions. I have to deal with a mobster in my Penthouse. I have to deal with invasions of aliens and robots (I’m building a Rat Cave next so I can create weapons to fight off those meanies). Strictly open game play like the original Sims was just not fun for me, but I love having a list of little tasks to achieve.
Now, Sims 2 DS is not perfect. I am particularly disturbed by the angry and loopy Sims. It’s my responsibility to calm them down. If I don’t do it right, they take a swing at me. I really don’t like that the only way to stop them from punching me is to “beg” them. It is even more disturbing to me when the Sim is male. In “real” life if a man acted like that around me, he would be evicted from my hotel and barred from ever coming back in. That’s not an option in this game, so several times a day, I have to beg Sims not to punch me. I took a video of an interaction so you could see what I mean:
The angry Sim apologizes and gives you a gift after you calm him down, but I am disturbed by the punching. I know people get angry in real life, but begging them isn’t the way to stop them from punching you. I think it bothers me because it’s my job to make people happy, calm or stop acting so drunk. In real life, I have found that I can’t really change other people’s emotions. Their emotions are strictly under their own control. I like how Animal Crossing does it instead. When my animal friends are angry or sad, they tell me to leave them alone for a little while while they work through their feelings. That seems a little more realistic to me.
I was also bothered by the fact that the first thing you need to do to revitalize your hotel is to build a casino, but I haven’t seen the entire story arc. I have purposely stayed away from walkthroughs and spoilers as much as I can because I want the game to surprise me. I don’t want to know everything about the game before I even get to play it.
On the whole, this is a great game for adults. If you kept hearing about how The Sims is a wonderful game, but couldn’t understand what everyone was so excited about, try Sims 2 for the Nintendo DS. It’s almost good enough to draw my attention away from Animal Crossing.

The Oasis is in the desert. Make sure you buy some food from the restaurant to bring with you when you go out there and eat it when your Sanity level goes down. You should find the oasis somewhere to the right when you enter the dessert.

i had this game too its cool but.. i dont know how to use the “other concept arts” like the art of “LORD MOLE” i dont know how to use it… i’ve been stuck for days trying to figurate out how to convince “LORD MOLE” to stop gnawing at the power lines..could anyone please help me!! ?

You have to watch what they are doing. If they look like they’re going to hit you, you beg them (psycho!). If they are crying, you console them. If they are out of control, you scold them.
This game has such a flawed view of human interaction that I really think it’s a problem.

To find the metal bars, you need to buy a metal detector. You power it with the green rods that you can pick up everywhere. You have to take the metal detector to the furnace in the basement to power up the metal detector.
After that, you can take it out to the desert. Turn on the metal detector and walk around with it. You will find lots of things with your metal detector.

All the guest rooms are upstairs. Take the stairs in the lobby to the elevator and go to the second floor. You’ll find all the hotel rooms there.

i know i cant find the metal bars either!! everywhere i look for walkthroughs it just says “look around the desert and find the metal bars with your metal detector.” by the way, what is that thingy on the m. detector that you can slide up and down?

wow i havent even gotten the metal detector yet. well i just got the game yesterday… well actually a few days ago, but then i had to buy a new charger cuz my battery was completely dead, so… yeah. when does the metal detector show up, anyway?

Hi Guys, In order to find the metal bars, there is no specific spot. you have to watch the metal detector for the shovel to flash..then dig up what you find…..also, make sure you have room in your “pockets!”

From my experience you can only purchase the metal detector when you’ve got the ‘metal bar’ quest from the Frank guy in the penthouse. The one where he asks you to bring him three metal bars. No, I dont know where the metal bars are…Just make sure when you go into the desert you have a full sanity meter, take a food and a drink item with you, and have all other pockets empty. Goodluck.

I have found loads of copper bars, silver bars and lead rocks. I have even found one gold bar, but when i offered them to Frankie in the penthouse nothing happened! I am at my wits end trying to complete this particular task!!! If soomeone can give me a description of what these bars look like, i would really appreciate it.

I have the medal detector and know how to charge it but the metal bars just don’t come up does anyone know maybe how they look or maybe how to turn that thing up or down so that you find them anything will help. : )

You have to go outside the town limits to find the oasis. It is the pretty green area in the desert outside of town.

The metal bars are in random places just outside of town. Sometimes they are in the pretty green areas, sometimes they are in the sand, sometimes they are near the alien ship wreck.
The oasis is the pretty green area, but you don’t use the metal detector to find the sarcophagus. It’s just there when it’s supposed to be and you can pick it up.

The way to achieve 20% in hotel score is to continue working at the hotel and doing all the little things that help, like vacuuming, refilling the brochures and making the customers happy. The cleaner you keep the hotel, the more customers will come.
KEEP playing is the moral to the story.
BTW, this game is all about maintaining a hotel and fighting aliens. If you want a game about driving cars, I recommend Burnout for the DS. Sorry, but you NEVER get your car back…

When you calm down people, you have to respond correctly. This is one of the reasons I think this game is royally messed up in the head. For example, if they threaten to hit you, you should beg.

Hey. Ok people i think from what ive learned the cooper bars Are the metal bars so just bring him 3 cooper bars. Metal dector is in the store. And the oasis is with all the tree next to the alien hide out.
