Animal Crossing New Leaf: The Best of the Old and Even Better New
I played Animal Crossing Wild World A LOT and I thought that Nintendo wouldn’t be able to improve on it, but Animal Crossing New Leaf is the best of the old games and has even better new features. I’ve been playing for over four months now, and every day is still a joy. In addition to the fishing, bug catching and furniture collecting there are a myriad of new activities.
The first difference is the fact that you are now the mayor of your town. With this added responsibility, you get to do Public Works Projects and Set Town Ordinances. The town tree shows your town’s progress.
The Public Works Projects are suggested by the citizens of the town. I love how appreciative they are once you build them.
One of the Public Works Projects that you can start as a mayor, is Brewster’s Cafe. He lets you work there after you become a regular. You wouldn’t think working at a coffee shop, trying to guess everyone’s favorite coffee would be fun, but I absolutely love it!
Another Public Works Project (one requiring signatures) is Club LOL. I love to go there every night to dance and the fact that DJ K.K. plays my town tune between tracks makes me love him even more!
You can see a couple more Public Works Projects here, a bonfire and the camp site. I didn’t think this would be fun, but I love having visitors to the town every few days.
The town ordinances let you have the shops open early or stay open late. There are also ones that help you earn more money or keep the town garbage and weed-free.
Don’t worry about old Tortimer, the former mayor, he is retired at the island and you can visit it for only 1000 Bells. Go in the evening, and you’ll easily earn the money back catching beetles on the trees.
Another MAJOR difference in this game is that you can swim in the water and catch seafood. If you catch a scallop, you’ll meet up with Pascal.
There is a new character, Phineas, who gives you badges when you accomplish things.
There is also an alpaca named Cyrus who will make changes to furniture for you. For example, if your green chair is too green, he’ll repaint it.
As fun as all these big changes are, there are some tiny changes that have made me so happy every time I encounter them. Sometimes when you visit an animal friend, you’ll catch them snoozing in their homes. That used to happen in the original game, but it wasn’t something that happened in Wild World.
If you build a bench, they will actually sit on it and invite you to join them!
One time, I even found Sparro asleep on the bench!
Sometimes after it rains, there is a rainbow. I know Wild World had this, but it’s a nice touch that they kept.
Little things like playing Hide and Seek with the animals make each day a happy moment.
I have been playing this game EVERY day for over four months now and it is still enjoyable and fresh every time. I’m surprised by something almost every day and I love it! Definitely worth the thirty bucks!
If you would like to visit my town, my Dream Address is 4000-2185-7855.
